How to Get a Flat Stomach:
What Really Works?
It seems everyone wants to know how to get a flat stomach.
As a result, they try one diet program after another, try so
many exercise programs they eventually lose count, and buy
countless products that promise to give them a flat stomach
in just a month or two.
And none of it really works.
So what does work?
If you want a flat stomach, there are three factors you
should keep in mind.
Diet for a Flat Stomach
If you have a thick middle, it is because excess body fat
has collected around your waist and stomach. So one of your
goals is to burn off excess body fat, including excess
abdominal fat.
A healthier, more well balanced diet should help you obtain
a flat stomach. If you consume fewer calories than your body
burns, your body will have no choice but to start burning
your excess fat.
Some claim there are specific foods you can eat that will
help burn belly fat. While that might be true, simply eating
more healthy, low calorie foods, and avoiding foods and
snacks that are high in calories, will work wonders.
But be careful you don't cut your daily calorie intake too
much. Drastic cuts in your calorie intake could send your
body into survival mode. Your body will think you are
starving, and will start trying to hold on to excess fat to
help you survive. As a result, you won't burn as many
calories, and getting that flat stomach you want will be
harder than ever.
So, cut calories, but do it
sensibly.
Exercise More for a Flat Stomach
Most people have found that just dieting or just exercising
isn’t enough to get rid of excess abdominal fat. A program
that combines both diet and exercise is the quickest, most
efficient road to a flat stomach.
But what kinds of exercises you should do is the question.
Some people start a cardiovascular exercise program (like
jogging or aerobics) and find that, while they are shedding
pounds, and seem to be losing fat everywhere else, that
stubborn belly fat doesn't seem to want to go anywhere.
Others, who might already be relatively slim and only care
about getting a flat stomach, might focus on doing abdominal
exercises only to find that, while their abs might feel a
little tighter, the fat is still there.
That's because doing one type of exercise or another isn't
as effective as doing both.
A cardiovascular exercise program will help your body burn
off fat, including the fat around your waist and stomach.
And doing abdominal exercises will help give you tighter abs
and a trimmer waist.
What about Genetics?
It's true that some people are genetically predisposed to
having thicker middles. That is just where most of their
excess fat tends to end up. As a result, losing belly fat
can be much more difficult for them.
Difficult, but not impossible. It might take a little longer
for them to lose excess belly fat. But they can lose it.
Anyone can learn how to get a flat stomach. And, with the
right combination of diet and exercise, you can have the
flat stomach you have always dreamed of.
